Pip’s Place Gluten Free Cakery- New York, NY

Pip’s Place Gluten Free Cakery is a refreshing addition to the world of bakeries in dedicated gluten free spaces. A bit more refinement lingers in the atmosphere and the options behind the immaculately clean glass case. I tested out a sour cream coffee cake, which was delightfully buttery and dense, with a hint of vanilla and a brown sugar crumble. Fresh out of the oven came a feta, sundried tomato, spinach and pumpkin seed savory muffin which melted in my mouth. The lovely owner told me there are two locations in New York as I sipped my steaming house made … Continue reading Pip’s Place Gluten Free Cakery- New York, NY

Rice To Riches- New York, NY

A short stop in New York took me and my gal pals Julie and Katie to Rice to Riches, a rice pudding paradise with flavors to please any palette with their giant portions and overflowing cups of this milky sweet treat. After about 8 samples, I settled on the French Toast flavor topped with an overly abundant amount of whipped cream while my comrade K. Segal chose the Cherry Mascarpone. Insignia making fun of thin girls and those who fear fat cover the walls. There was no lack of flavor or topping choice but in the end it still tasted … Continue reading Rice To Riches- New York, NY

Babycakes – New York, NY

There’s a special place in my heart for Babycakes vegan, gluten free bakery, the first gf bakery I had the pleasure of visiting in my wheat less life. Located in New York’s Lower East Side, my first trip here was on a 6 hour layover in NYC early 2008. It took the entire layover to get there and back, but what a triumphant day it was as I carried my pale pink paper box back to the plane. Today my selection was the vanilla cupcake with lemon frosting and a mouthwatering vanilla glazed doughnut with sprinkles, still warm. As a cake … Continue reading Babycakes – New York, NY

Nice Matin – New York, New York

K. Segal and I caught word of a french restaurant with gluten free options called Nice Matin. Upon entering it was apparent that the hosts at the door didn’t know too much about that option. I was caught into a whirl of confusion with one menu in my hands, then another, then an order, then another…ending with a lukewarm turkey, bacon and arugula mozzarella melt delivered to my table upon an undercooked, yet burnt gluten free bun. I would have rather ordered off of the normal menu and asked for large leaves of lettuce for with which to eat my … Continue reading Nice Matin – New York, New York
