There’s a special place in my heart for Babycakes vegan, gluten free bakery,the first gf bakery I had the pleasure of visiting in my wheat less life. Located in New York’s Lower East Side, my first trip here was on a 6 hour layover in NYC early 2008. It took the entire layover to get there and back, but what a triumphant day it was as I carried my pale pink paper box back to the plane.
Today my selection was the vanilla cupcake with lemon frosting and a mouthwatering vanilla glazed doughnut with sprinkles, still warm. As a cake like donut lover this tickles the spot every time. K. Segal got a double chocolate cookie sandwich with coconut oil mint frosting. One bite in it was the most refreshing giant thin mint I’d ever consumed. I’ve become obsessed. Those cookie sandwiches at $5 and doughnuts around $3 just melt magic in your mouth. Inside, the hip and attractive atmosphere is smiled over by a picture of the owner with Martha Stewart; both bright and gleaming with an array of vegan, gluten free, agave sweetened goods. If you haven’t visited here you must, it’s becoming a gluten free classic.
